* My arm continues to improve. The shoulder still hurts, plus some secondary patches, but the arm can carry a reasonable amount of weight and I don't lose power to it randomly nor does it feel like it's being flayed if I use my hands and wrists too much. I can make this degree of range of motion work. This is a level of pain I consider functional, as in it doesn't interfere with the absolute essentials of keeping me and the animals and plants alive, so it's a win, even if it still kind of sucks. There are other parts of me regularly at this level. Several other parts of me around this level right now.
The cold/headache/queasiness are much better, but the cough has moved down into my lungs in the inevitable way anything remotely respiratory ends up. I'm monitoring it, basically.
My schedule is wildly off today. I had to stay up for food delivery as it's essential to keep the Millenials from carrying groceries inside. As I typed this, I was full of delicious fresh vegetables. I will have fresh fruit later. Omnomnom.
So I slept in, which I needed to do anyway, really. I am exhausted and I keep having to do laundry. This would have been fine, but the television froze again, luckily in the way where it keeps playing what you are watching, but you can't pause or change shows. Extra unluckily, I was in the middle of lading the alienist and it froze in the select screen. Happily, I'd been listening to a Noel coward play as I made dinner. not being able to see the funnier bits of acting was a loss, but even if I didn't know this play well, which I did, being coward, it works fine as a radio play.
It still wasn't unfrozen after lung time when the play ended, so I went back to my room to fold laundry. I knew this was a mistake; I did it anyway.
Since elder Kitty died, the Imperial couple have been basically living in the office and living room area, which are technically one room, but I set up the furniture that way for practical reasons. They have two litter boxes in the territory, feeding stations, and lots of mesting spots and entertainment. I think it has to do with the way things shifted towards the end of elder Kitties life, idk. No bed pets for baby girl and Tavy doesn't come to sleep on me or even hang out while I'm getting it together in the evening to leave the bed. Livia will run into my room, like she did when food delivery came or the like. For Tavy the prohibition is absolute and they no longer follow me the the bathroom or come to watch me cook in the kitchen. We get mobbed when we leave our rooms.
When I went to my room I put Tavy on my shoulder and carried him in. Normally he loves to "help" with laundry. He growled when I offered a chance to jump into the basket, so OI moved to an on bed spot and after more petting, he jumped off and left. Ah well, I thought. I watched a library movie and folded and put away the laundry. By which point I was exhausted.
I was lying there trying to talk myself into getting back up, when Tavy came in, climbed on my chest and after a pet, went to sleep. TRAPPED!
It was worth it though.
* I used to watch all the Pedro Almodóvar movies as they came out, but I've lost track in recent years, not really having money to go to movies much. I not only missed "Pain and Glory" in the cinema, I literally didn't know it was out until I saw it on the award lists last Winter. I must have ordered it from the Library before lockdown because it came last Tuesday.
I watched it tonight and DAMN! I am kind of glad I didn't see it in a cinema, but not for the usual reasons I say this. It was the most raw and vulnerable thing I've seen on screen since Gods and Monsters, I think, and that did not speak to me in the very personal way this did. Jesus did this speak to me.
It ripped my heart right out and towards the end I kept forgetting how to breath.
It is so rare, even now to see anything that captures any part of my experience or worldview or anything personal to me. I have trouble empathizing even a little with cis straight white men losing their shit because once in a while a movie or TV show isn't about then because even fragments I can identify with personally are rare. I have seen a childhood abuse pattern like mine depicted exactly once in all the books, tv shows, and movies I've seen in my life and that character in Six Feet Under took the equally clever, but opposite approach to resistance than the one I chose. I saw my first non-binary character on screen in the peerless Shortbus in 2006. I waited until I was 36 to find a character that shares something as basic as gender with me and all these men throw a tantrum because once in a blue moon they let a woman being and action hero these days. this is the sound of the world's tiniest violin squeaking for them. every now and then I'll catch a glimpse of of something like my mind in a character (Hey there Jack Harkness), or some distorted mirror image, but I'm strange and complex and I don't fit in the kind of stories people make for mass audiences, not really.
This movie though? Jesus fuck Almodóvar! I've never felt so soon, nor as naked. Oh the details are different, but the essence? Ouch. It was one of the most profound bits of art I've ever had the honor to look it. I may never see it again, because it's a bit like being flayed by inches.
I do not think I'd have wanted strangers to hear the sounds I started making towards the and or my face as I watched things like him saying goodbye to his old lover.
I think this is the most powerful a nuanced thing he's ever done, so deeply personal and specific, with the nuance and willingness to understate of a master of his craft. I just... no fucking words.
And this cast? All those years of experience seasoning them until they could do this.
I think I'll go have a good cry now.

* My arm continues to improve. The shoulder still hurts, plus some secondary patches, but the arm can carry a reasonable amount of weight and I don't lose power to it randomly nor does it feel like it's being flayed if I use my hands and wrists too much. I can make this degree of range of motion work. This is a level of pain I consider functional, as in it doesn't interfere with the absolute essentials of keeping me and the animals and plants alive, so it's a win, even if it still kind of sucks. There are other parts of me regularly at this level. Several other parts of me around this level right now.
The cold/headache/queasiness are much better, but the cough has moved down into my lungs in the inevitable way anything remotely respiratory ends up. I'm monitoring it, basically.
My schedule is wildly off today. I had to stay up for food delivery as it's essential to keep the Millenials from carrying groceries inside. As I typed this, I was full of delicious fresh vegetables. I will have fresh fruit later. Omnomnom.
So I slept in, which I needed to do anyway, really. I am exhausted and I keep having to do laundry. This would have been fine, but the television froze again, luckily in the way where it keeps playing what you are watching, but you can't pause or change shows. Extra unluckily, I was in the middle of lading the alienist and it froze in the select screen. Happily, I'd been listening to a Noel coward play as I made dinner. not being able to see the funnier bits of acting was a loss, but even if I didn't know this play well, which I did, being coward, it works fine as a radio play.
It still wasn't unfrozen after lung time when the play ended, so I went back to my room to fold laundry. I knew this was a mistake; I did it anyway.
Since elder Kitty died, the Imperial couple have been basically living in the office and living room area, which are technically one room, but I set up the furniture that way for practical reasons. They have two litter boxes in the territory, feeding stations, and lots of mesting spots and entertainment. I think it has to do with the way things shifted towards the end of elder Kitties life, idk. No bed pets for baby girl and Tavy doesn't come to sleep on me or even hang out while I'm getting it together in the evening to leave the bed. Livia will run into my room, like she did when food delivery came or the like. For Tavy the prohibition is absolute and they no longer follow me the the bathroom or come to watch me cook in the kitchen. We get mobbed when we leave our rooms.
When I went to my room I put Tavy on my shoulder and carried him in. Normally he loves to "help" with laundry. He growled when I offered a chance to jump into the basket, so OI moved to an on bed spot and after more petting, he jumped off and left. Ah well, I thought. I watched a library movie and folded and put away the laundry. By which point I was exhausted.
I was lying there trying to talk myself into getting back up, when Tavy came in, climbed on my chest and after a pet, went to sleep. TRAPPED!
It was worth it though.
* I used to watch all the Pedro Almodóvar movies as they came out, but I've lost track in recent years, not really having money to go to movies much. I not only missed "Pain and Glory" in the cinema, I literally didn't know it was out until I saw it on the award lists last Winter. I must have ordered it from the Library before lockdown because it came last Tuesday.
I watched it tonight and DAMN! I am kind of glad I didn't see it in a cinema, but not for the usual reasons I say this. It was the most raw and vulnerable thing I've seen on screen since Gods and Monsters, I think, and that did not speak to me in the very personal way this did. Jesus did this speak to me.
It ripped my heart right out and towards the end I kept forgetting how to breath.
It is so rare, even now to see anything that captures any part of my experience or worldview or anything personal to me. I have trouble empathizing even a little with cis straight white men losing their shit because once in a while a movie or TV show isn't about then because even fragments I can identify with personally are rare. I have seen a childhood abuse pattern like mine depicted exactly once in all the books, tv shows, and movies I've seen in my life and that character in Six Feet Under took the equally clever, but opposite approach to resistance than the one I chose. I saw my first non-binary character on screen in the peerless Shortbus in 2006. I waited until I was 36 to find a character that shares something as basic as gender with me and all these men throw a tantrum because once in a blue moon they let a woman being and action hero these days. this is the sound of the world's tiniest violin squeaking for them. every now and then I'll catch a glimpse of of something like my mind in a character (Hey there Jack Harkness), or some distorted mirror image, but I'm strange and complex and I don't fit in the kind of stories people make for mass audiences, not really.
This movie though? Jesus fuck Almodóvar! I've never felt so soon, nor as naked. Oh the details are different, but the essence? Ouch. It was one of the most profound bits of art I've ever had the honor to look it. I may never see it again, because it's a bit like being flayed by inches.
I do not think I'd have wanted strangers to hear the sounds I started making towards the and or my face as I watched things like him saying goodbye to his old lover.
I think this is the most powerful a nuanced thing he's ever done, so deeply personal and specific, with the nuance and willingness to understate of a master of his craft. I just... no fucking words.
And this cast? All those years of experience seasoning them until they could do this.
I think I'll go have a good cry now.
