They are also doing drastic illegal cuts, and closing about half of Social security offices, require a massive amount of people to pour in to the offices for identity verification when they know they are already scheduling appointments a month out.

Why is this important? The Social Security Administration has a notoriously difficult website to use. It requires a special log in thing that most people do not have. (Including me.) Sometimes they will issue you one and not tell you what it is if you get it at an SSA office. They don't, say email it to you, which would be useless in any case for people who don't have internet access or have disabilities that make using the Internet extra hard, and for people who often are older than the internet and have little to no appropriate skills, or are home bound and can't get to library, or have had their local library cut and also just had the SSA office near them closed, or.... You get the idea.

Approximately 80% of people on Social security or applying for benefits use the phone service, because it actually works if you are patient, unlike the glitchy and difficult to access web site.

This cut is really about denying people who paid into the system getting access to the benefits they paid for.

It also really fucks up seniors and people with disabilities who need things like Medicaid and EBT on top of their Medicare as those programs often require a proof of income letter once or twice a year that must be issued within 1-3 months of turning in your paperwork. (Exactly details are state by state. My state is once a year up to three months. My state is super lenient because it's been unified Democratic rule for decades and it works at keeping citizens alive instead of trying to kill them off). So do a bunch of other programs for seniors and people with disabilities. I have to interact with this phone system 2-4 times a year, depending on which of my services need re-upping.

The knock on effects of the planned cuts would have been huge!

* This week has been exhausting and full of bureaucracy. My body is also being so difficult, I've decided to give myself a vacation from physio as this is just way too much pain and exhaustion for me to manage while also doing all this extra stuff in batches the whole time I'm awake. I think I know why Killian laptop was in a refurbishment shop. The power cord is loose at both ends. It'll look plugged in but isn't. Even minor jostling will invisibly disconnect it.

I'm well into the spin up of Killian. I have given up on Waterfox as it upgrades without asking to a version too modern to run on him while I'm asleep. Waterfox classic it is, I guess. He's not pulling a full load yet, but every day I get a little closer.

We are having the kind of winds we usually only get in Autumn, and it's a little unnerving. It sounds and feels like November.
