This captures exactly why I’m angry and won’t be watching the Netflix Show.

There were a lot of things I wanted to say about what it feels like when they do this kind of thing and it’s someone you loved who’s murder is being twisted and exploited. (Different murder, smaller scale, but it is an ugly ugly thing when they make this sort of entertainment about someone you loved).

My heart goes out to the families of the dead. To all the people who knew and loved those men who would still be alive today if the police weren’t racist and homophobic; if this person hadn’t decided to do these terrible things to them. To all the people who now have to watch people woobifying and thirsting for a man who literally was trying to make sex slaves to rape and murder. To all the peo0ple who are going to have to see countless people dressing as glorified versions of the man who did this to their friends, their family members, their lovers.

Real people, precious and unique, were violated on every level and murdered. Many of the people who loved them are still alive.

So much harm was done and is being done still. By the way media covered and still covers it. By the police who still mistreat people who aren’t straight/white/cis and ignore our deaths and disappearances. By killers still preying on our community.

I am so angry. I am angry every time it happens. It is still happening.

I will never be eloquent enough to convey to you the depths of my anger that it happened at all, that it is still happening in the 21st century, and that instead of something actually being done about it, it’s a joke, an entertainment, a Halloween costume.

It’s not funny or entertaining or cute or clever. It’s evil.

Thank you Mr. Somerton. Your research and understanding of the context is admirable. You have captured something of what it was like to live through that time and this trauma.
