* 5/20/24: It is pretty clear that Tavy pushing my damaged arm behind me and pinning it there is the main issue with the shoulder joint. I keep not being able to manage many reps on the new exercises. Sigh. I hate being this weak and these exercises are the ones meant to be rebuilding the strength to independently raise that arm, but they are too dangerous to force, so i must give way to nature. I am not enjoying the resulting shakes either, but nothing can be done.

I was good and got the replacement vaccine today. It will likely lay me up 2-3 days, the side effect list being as dire as for a COVID vaccine. I will have to go back for a second dose in the back half of July. I could already feel mild effects by the time I got home. Sigh.

It will be worth it though. I absolutely do NOT want shingles and the old vaccine is nearly useless at this point.

* 5/22/24: So not only did the vaccine side effect ramp up on me, but Squirrel brought a cold home from work. It was a really unpleasant night Tuesday. I called in on physio on account of infection which was absolutely the correct call. I was in terrible shape until afternoon, when i passed the 48 hour mark on the shot amnd over the course of an hour I gradully started feeling better. It didn't solve the cold and i went back to the same background ick from the first 24, but this is so much more manageable. (It's not COVID. We checked).

I'm plateaued on the arm anyway. I still can't do the new hard excercise and I go back and forth on how any reps of the upgraded one I can do. Part of this is partially the Emperor's fault for repeatedly edgingg my arm into a stress position behind my back and pinning it there while I'm asleep. The pain eventually wakes me, but the damage is done. The issue is he wants to sleep in the crook of my arm, which is fine wehen I'm niot this attrophied and damaged from surgury. it's not malicious. He's just stressed out and wants cuddle naps.

Bonus: I realized Tuesday night I was so focused on the new excercise and the upgrade I forgot to to the hardest of the old excercise for an entire week. *facepalm* Seriously, giving me another week to get my shit together and not infecting a waiting room of fragile elderly people and physio staff with the ick was the way to go.

I spent the day masked up to help a friend get existential threat level bureaucracy partially sorted. (We managed the hardest, most time consuming part that need fixing before the other things could be fixed).

I feel really good about the work we did and just hope it all works out.

It is 9:58 as of this writing and I've done almost none of the essential things on my own behalf except physio and feeding myself. Yes, I remembered that one excercise. No I didn't even try the new super hard one today as my arm was Done and the pain situation is not great.

* 5/27/24 AM: I thought I was getting better, but I think it was the last of the vaccination side effects passing. Thursday evening the pathogen Squirrel brought home from the hospital escalated on me. Friday evening (too late to call the Doctor) the secondary infections started in, which is a thing that happens to me. The ear infection I fight each evening using old fashioned methods. Every day when I do what currently passes for sleeping, it resurges with no one to fight it every few hours. My lungs are not great and it's possible I've picked up a secondary infection there too, though smart money is on my sinuses sending things there that don't belong. I need to spend a stupid amount of time in bed, too ill to sleep and to tired to read.

Sunday evening, something went terribly wrong with my eyes. I tried cold compresses and my perscription allergy drops. Only temporary relief. Conjunctiveitis? COVID eyes? Some fresh hell?

It is memorial day tomorrow, so I can't even get an emergancy lung clinic appointment until Tuesday if I am extremely luckly, though probably wednesday of Thursday.

We checked multiple times for COVID, but I don't trust the tests to pick up new weird variants, so I can't really trust the negative tests. Squirrel thinks not, though and it's some random brutal respiratory thing they picked up at the hospital. Goth Millenial has come down with it. Luckily, I was able to ward off the other Millenials.

It's bad folks. I don't know what to tell you. we did everything right as far as masking and hand-washing, but his work will always be high risk.

* 5/28/24: So Tuesday Morning I called my pharmacy to ask them to please do my antibiotics up so I could come get them right away, since I'd already missed a dose.

Turns out the hospital lied about calling my two antibiotics in. Because of course they did. So now I am calling around trying to sort ity and the denial of coverages from the surgery and the physio reschedule, so that's super extra fun.

Test results in: It really isn't COVID. It's also noy strep or influenza, and given that my lungs are responding to the anti-biotic, but not my throat, my bet is the lung infection may be a secondary bacterial like the ears and eyes.

This sort oif thing happens when your immune system can't fight it's way out of a wet paper bag.

Update: 5 hours after second dose of the antibiotic and aplication of antibiotic ointment and things are noticeably better. I am still itchy and my hearing is still is fucked up, but I'm barely coughing, my ear and throat barely hurt, and I'm not struggling to read. Progress!

* 5/30/24: I spent all of Tuesday from 8AM to about 4PM doing phone bureaucracy with a break for Doctor/meds/food in the middle. I which people would let me rest, but I now don't owe a surprise 1700+ for the operation that I was not supposed to owe, amoung other things. Being sick is now officially a full time job. Um, thanks?

Tuesday night I had a perfect storm of chronic stuff and contagion stuff ganging up on me, so that was six hours of hell followed by several hours of mitigation when I should have been sleeping. Unfortunately neither chronic illness more surgical recovery go away just because one gets horribly sick. Wednesday I was well enough to ne all the physio except the one that's been too hard. Thursday I actually did all of them for the first time.

I also discovered I wasn't dosing my eyes often enough. In my defense, I was still having trouble reading when I read the directions Tuesday. Sigh. It does explain why my lungs are improving dramatically faster than my eyes. I am still struggling with hearing and sinuses, but am generally so much better. Amoxicillin FTW!
