* Events moved really fast in Seattle last night, but I got very little sleep yesterday and I really need to sleep. I really hope that we are looking at the straws that break the camel's back, because in the 22ish years I've lived up here I've seen wave after wave of egregious racism and violence from Seattle PD followed by protests that always get empty promises. The Seattle PD has gotten a lot worse 2016. It's time to fix this. Devolve most of their functions on non-violent social services and fund those properly. Disband the police and form a force that just focuses on solving crime staffed by new people. If the old officers want their jobs back? Make them reapply and only take the squeaky clean ones with no prior complaints.

How many neo-NAZIs and sympathizers are acceptable in a police force? Same amount as cholera in your drinking water: None.

* I feel like I need to say this again, given the givens: I am broadly pro Union, but the police unions are dangerous and toxic. If a nurse was caught murdering patients, there wouldn't be a massive nurse's union walk out protesting the nurse being charged. When a teacher is caught molesting kids, the teacher's union doesn't go picket the school board. Most other professions draw a line between fighting for benefits/better working conditions on the one hand and declaring their members above the law no matter how many people they maim and kill. Just saying.

* I did manage to get through to a different human. Apparently the guy who lied to me and refused to do anything also didn't log anything about the interaction. Lady at DHS: I can have your local office mail you another card today. Me: Why didn't the other guy just do that instead of lying repeatedly and refusing to fix it. Her: I don't know.

I am still confused as to why, if it only takes 1-3 days to replace a card, me not having mine yet a couple weeks later wasn't a red flag that maybe he should reissue instead of refusing to give me any time frame for how many weeks or months it normally takes or was likely to take.

Seriously, if it was this obvious something went wrong and this easy to solve with a few key strokes why lie and stonewall and refuse to help?
