* Everyone needs to make their own decisions in situations like this, but I, for one, am okay with Joy Reid. She's been a solid ally. Her apology was not one of those bullshit sorry if I offended you things most public figures do, but rather a real apology expressing her horror at the things she said ten years ago and a real understanding of the damage words like those do, particularly to the most vulnerable in our community. We have all said things we weren't proud of a decade ago, and she really has shown evolution. She then held a panel discussion with a diverse group of LGBT folk and let them lead the discussion and talk about a variety of issues that affect our community. I do trust that she understands what she did, I do think it's important that we let people make amends when they show sincere change, and she has done that in the years I've been watching her. I can both hate the things she said a decade ago, at a time when I was posting periodic rants about people on the left doing exactly what she was doing then, and also appreciate that she's doing good things now, in a time when we need all the allies we can get.
